Cinnamon-Honey Mask & Vanilla Mint Honey Scrub
Hello! I have some exciting new natural health ideas to share – not exactly yoga, but very much related. When we maintain a regular yoga practice and become more in tune with our bodies and minds, we begin to understand how to care for ourselves on deeper and deeper levels. We tend to eat healthier, crave more activity, and just all around take better care of ourselves. One way to do this is by using natural beauty products. There are a bunch on the market – some work better than others – and many still have questionable ingredients. If you can’t pronounce them easily, they might not be the best thing to put on or in your body, in my opinion. So I’ve ventured into making some of my own beauty products and will share some ideas from time to time!
So, one great new one I’ve been using religiously is a Cinnamon-Honey Face Mask. I have struggled with acne for a long time and it can be very frustrating! I know it could be a lot worse, but having even one blemish can be physically painful and diminish one’s self-esteem. I have tried everything I can imagine and have still only seen glimpses of completely clear skin until now. Of course there are many causes for acne and many ways to deal with it, but for me, the cinnamon-honey face mask seems to be working great! Not only are cinnamon and honey antibacterial/antimicrobial but the honey is so soothing and doesn’t over-dry the sensitive facial skin. Especially during the winter when I also struggle with dry patches, this is an important consideration. Since using this mask, it has quickly cleared up existing pimples and also a dry red patch of skin. I need to be careful what I put on my face as moisturizer since they may take care of the dry skin but also clog my pores (even when packages say they won’t), so this mask is perfect! All you do is mix 2 TBSP Honey with 1 TSP Cinnamon in a small bowl. Have paper towels on hand as it is a little sticky! Massage the mask onto your entire face or just spot-treat, leave it on for about 15 minutes, then rinse.
Another nice one that I made as holiday gifts for my friends and family is a Vanilla Mint Honey Scrub. It is a luxurious way to spoil yourself and all your senses. Here’s the recipe: 1 cup Pink Himalayan Sea Salt (you can use high-quality sea salt or sugar, too), 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup sweet almond oil, 1 vanilla bean split & scraped, 10 drops of peppermint essential oil, 1 tsp vanilla extract. (All organic if possible!) Mix all ingredients in the order in which they are listed, and add more salt if necessary so it’s not too juicy. Place the split vanilla bean in a clean jar and scoop the scrub into the jar. Use 1 TBSP at a time and rub the scrub in your palms until loosened. Gently massage the scrub onto wet skin and leave on for 3-5 minutes. Rinse it off and your skin will be moisturized and exfoliated! It feels great and smells delicious, too!
